The Puppeteer is the First song of the saga where Odysseus and whats left of his crew take refuge on an unknown island, away from the grasp of Poseidon. During this time Odysseus had Euryluchous go scout out the island, where Euryluchous and his party encounter a witch in the woods that turned all the men to pigs.
After hearing how his men were turned into pigs Odysseus went straight into the woods to go help his men, without thinking of what would happen when he faced her. While on his way to encounter the witch Odysseus had an encounter with yet another God:Hermes. Hermes was there to show Odysseus of a powerful flower that can give him the power to defeat the which, but will only last until his opponent is defeated than it will be gone.
After eating and digesting the planet given to Odysseus by Hermes, he arrived at the palace of the Witch. While he was there he acted as if he was a stranger but than unfolded the truth that he knew she turned his men to pigs. They raged in battle with Odysseus coming out on top....but the witch had other tricks up her sleeves.
Knowing that she has been defeated the witch understands that there is always one thing men will bend to, the lust of a woman. While she tries to seduce Odysseus into her lustful ways so that she could easily kill him, to her surprise he refused. Odysseus was married to his Penelope, the one to which gives him the strength to keep going until he sees her again. Struck with sympathy for him and his men, the witch offers her aid to help the men avoid Poseidon....By having them speak to a prophet in the Underworld.
